If you are currently on the lookout for a new watch you will find plenty to choose from. 2011 has been a great year for chronographs to suit almost every budget. Hopefully by the end of this article you will have a much better idea of what to buy.

Victorinox Steel Alliance Chrono Watch

It is no surprise that the Swiss continue to dominate in the world of watch making. They just have a knack for combining elegance with the best in precision timing. The Victorinox steel alliance chrono is not only a good example of Swiss ingenuity, but it is also a very reasonably priced designer watch into the bargain – you can pick this one up for about £400 which isn’t bad considering the watches credentials.

Wenger Steel Commando SR Watch

If you are one of those more sporty people then the Wenger steel commando SR watch will be a good choice. Even the name is enough to get the blood pumping. This is another Swiss made watch so you know you can depend on it. The designers have tried to put get inside the minds of outdoor types to ensure that this is a watch that will meet the needs of any adventurer. I just love the black and yellow colouring of this chronograph because it just really creates the impression of action and battling against the elements. This watch is also great value for money at just under £230.

Longines Steel Heritage 1954 Watch

With the success of TV shows like Mad Men there has been an increasing amount of interest in retro fashion. This beautiful timepiece has stepped right out of the 1950s and manages to capture all the elegance of that time. The secret to the authenticity of this watch is that they actually modelled it on something from that time period. Every aspect of the chronograph is retro; right down to the fish engraving on the back. If you want a watch that is going to become a great conversation starter then this will be the one to buy. At just over a £1000 it isn’t cheap, but many would say that it is well worth the price tag for such sophistication.

Tag Heuer Steel Aquaracer 500M Automatic chronograph

Tag Heuer are one of the most respected names in sporting watches and this steel Aquaracer is another great addition to the collection. As the name suggests this watch is aimed at divers, but there is no need to belong to this community of adventurers just to enjoy this watch. It is a beautifully made timepiece that manages to combine some great chronograph technology with a classic look. As to be expected with such a respected name in designer watches you will have to dig deep into your pockets. This Tag Heuer Steel Aquaracer will set you back about £1,700.

Timex Easy Reader Watch

If you only have a very modest budget then the Timex Easy Reader watch is probably the best option on the market today. You will pick this timepiece up for about £25. It has a bit of a retro-look that gives the appearance of it being a more expensive watch than what it actually is. This is also something that you will feel comfortable wearing with formal wear as well as when you are dressed casually – there are not many cheap watches you can say that about.

Hamilton Steel Jazzmaster Thin-O-Matic Watch

This is another retro watch only this time the focus in on the sixties; it is like we can’t get enough of the past when it comes to fashions at the moment. The Hamilton Steel Jazzmaster is a chic looking watch that comes with a remarkably thin case – this is where it gets its thin-o-matic name. It benefits from Swiss superior chronograph engineering and it can be yours for just £550

Montblanc Steel TimeWalker Automatic

The Mountblanc Steel Timewalker costs about £1,700 and some would say that it is cheap at this price. This is the type of chronograph you purchase with the idea of something you will wear for the rest of your life. In fact the watch is so versatile that there should be no real reason to ever buy anything else again. If you saw this chronograph on the wrist of somebody else it would likely catch your intention. It doesn’t look extravagant, but it does look 100% confidently luxurious. It will fit on your wrist just as well at a formal occasion as it will just wearing it around the house.

As you can see there are some great watches to choose from in 2011. A watch is so much more than just a device for telling the time; it adds greatly to your level of sophistication. If you purchase any of the watches mentioned here you are almost certain to turn heads.
